The Courtyard House, Patiala

A heritage home that needed to breathe.
The brief: a deep, narrow Model Town home with a sun-starved inner courtyard that the family had all but stopped using. Hot in May, gloomy by October, and impossible to plant in the ground.
What we did — We engineered a four-storey modular living wall on a stainless frame, with drip irrigation on a timer and a curated palette of ferns, pothos, philodendron and snake plant chosen for low, indirect light. A reclaimed-stone bench and warm path lighting turned the base into a quiet sitting nook.
The result — A courtyard that runs measurably cooler through summer, filters the afternoon glare, and has become the family’s favourite corner of the house. Two years on, it’s thriving — tended on our seasonal care plan.
